How To

How to Install a Facebook "Like Box"
  • From your Facebook page click on "Edit Page" button.
  • Click on the "Resources" link, then "Use Social Plugins."
  • Select "Like Box."
  • Copy and paste your Facebook Page URL into the appropriate field. (There is a default URL already there. You will want to change it.)
  • Set the width to 200 (so it will fit on the sidebar of your Sonlight page).
  • Make any other customizations desired. (I set my height to 290.)
  • Click on "Get Code" button.
  • Chose the "Iframe" option, and copy the code.
  • To have it show up on your Sonlight home page side bar, go back to your blog and edit the second post.
  • Click on the "Edit HTML" tab and paste in the code at the bottom of your post.
  • You can check to make sure it looks right by clicking on the "Preview" button.
  • Then "Publish Page" and it should show up on your Sonlight page.
  • To install it on your blog sidebar, click on the "Design" tab on your dashboard. The "Page Elements" layout is what comes up first by default.
  • Click on "Add a Gadget" at the top of the sidebar.
  • Click on "HTML/JavaScript" from the list of gadgets.
  • Paste the code into the "Content" field. Click "Save." Type something in the "Title" field for easy reference. (Such as "My Facebook Page" or whatever you like.)
  • Back on the "Page Elements" layout you can drag and drop to arrange the gadgets in whatever order you would like them to appear.
  • Be sure to click the orange "Save" button at the top when you're done.

How to Have Your Tweets Feed to Your Facebook Page
  • Log in to Facebook on your personal account.
  • Type "Twitter" in the search box at the top. The first thing that comes up should be the Twitter app.
  • From there it's pretty self-explanatory.
  • Even though you have to log in as yourself initially, you can set it up to have the Tweets feed to your blog page on Facebook if you like, instead of your personal page.
How to Generate QR-Code
  • Go to  http://qrcode.kaywa.com/.
  • Select URL for Content Type.
  • Put in the URL for whatever page you would like the QR Code to direct to. (For example:  http://www.sonlight.com/karlacook)
  • Choose S or M for size.
  • Click "Generate" button.
  • Click on the code generated to see it by itself on your browser.
  • Right click on the image to save it as a .png image file.
  • Use the saved image file on a poster or other printed matter.
  • You could also use the image on your blog or other locations on the web, but I'm not sure how helpful that would be. If someone is on the internet, they can just as easily click a link rather than scan a QR-code with their phone.
How to Set Up Google Alerts
  • Go to  http://www.google.com/alerts.
  • Fill in whatever word or phrase you want in the first field.
  • Select options from the drop-down menus in other fields.
  • Choose whether you would like to have your alerts delivered to your email or to your blog reader (feed).
  • Click the "Create Alert" button.
